On day 17 of "It's My Life 365" I have my first experience with the famous visa procedures of Africa. Nearly every country you enter you need to get a visa, and since I'm travelling overland this usually means stopping in a capital city for a couple days to do so. In this case, the visa process went insanely well and faster than I could have ever imagined. I decided to get my visa for Guinea-Bissau in Ziguinchor because I had heard it was cheaper and quicker than in Dakar. Little did I know that it would only take me about 5 minutes. Oh, if the visa process was this good for the rest of Africa it wouldn't be all that bad! SUBSCRIBE!! http://www.youtube.com/c/VicStefanu - Here are beautiful views of our landing at Port Moresby's international airport in beautiful Papua New Guinea. I flew in from Brisbane (Australia) and luckily I was sitting at the left side of the aircraft which gave me fantastic views of the approach to the airport. Vic Stefanu, firstname.lastname@example.org. Papua New Guinea, or PNG, officially the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, is an Oceanian country that occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and its offshore islands in Melanesia, a region of the southwestern Pacific Ocean north of Australia. Its capital, located along its southeastern coast, is Port Moresby
English/Nat Guinea Bissau's government forces came under heavy attack from rebels on Sunday in some of the heaviest fighting since a military faction mutinied a month ago. The government forces have been backed up by troops from neighboring Senegal. Rumours that 1-thousand new Senegalese troops had been dispatched to the area inspired the rebel forces to launch their biggest offensive yet, attacking government forces in the north of the city. The fighting in Guinea Bissau began on June 7 with a coup attempt in the capital, Bissau, by former army chief of staff Brigadier Ansumane Mane, who accuses President Vieira of corruption and says he should resign. The rebel forces are determined to win on this front, which lies to the North of the capital, and controls the route to t...

On Day 19 I finally leave the country of Senegal and make my way to Guinea-Bissau, a country that just got over a military coup 4 months prior and has no international bank machines at all. It's a fairly basic day of travel for me here in West Africa so far, a couple shared taxis and some interesting views. Tomorrow I make an attempt to get to Ilha Bubaque. Portu/French/Nat Government troops and rebels are reported to have exchanged heavy artillery fire in the capital of Guinea-Bissau on Friday, killing at least eight civilians. The Portuguese news agency Lusa says the victims died in artillery fire which also set fire to the city's central market. Bissau has been under sporadic attack since June 7, when a breakaway military faction occupied the city's main military garrison and the international airport where they are still entrenched. Rebel soldiers have stepped up their pressure against Senegalese troops, who have come to the aid of the beleaguered President of Guinea Bissau, Joao Bernardo Vieira. Hundreds of citizens have evacuated the area around the capital city, Bissau. Thousands have been displaced by fighting ov...
CASSACA, Guinea-Bissau, 3 March 2008 -- Like many girls in Guinea-Bissau, Mariama Sambu, 10, has a busy life. She rises at six each morning to help with household chores, which is no easy task when you share your small home with 18 other people. The structure of her house -- bricks made of mud, a dirt floor and a corrugated metal roof -- stands as a reminder that Mariama lives in one of the five poorest countries in the world. There is no electricity or running water, so Mariama must walk each morning to a nearby well, which was provided by UNICEF. Before this well was built, she had to walk 2 km for water, which left her little time to prepare for class. UNICEF has been working to help girls like Mariama excel in school by providing training for teachers. In this video, UNICEF cor...
